Look at the bright side, you would have never been able to get home if your return trip is Friday or Saturday. Mammoth is supposed to get 3-4 feet of snow by Friday so I imagine 395 would be a shit show if you were trying to get someplace in a hurry, especially those first couple of hours from Reno to Bishop. I guess you could also be taking the 5/80 which would be safer but still definitely expecting some winter conditions all around. Unless you were really looking to test out the winter capabilities of your GTI lol.

Granted, I’d be buying for 5, but we rarely fly unless it’s more than 12 hours (about what it takes us to get to Destin for spring break).
And I just like road trips, anyway. We did a 5000+ mile trip out your way just this summer!
That said, mountain passes in winter can be deadly...

Road trip! Drive over 80 now while it’s an option, then come back down 395 & over 178 the long, long way for “fun” if Donner is impassable by then. Tioga is closed already, I’m sure.
